Cincinnati Makes the Superbowl!!!

Hey everyone - long time no hear from, I know! Be that as it mahttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gify, I just wanted to let you all know despite the fact our beloved Bengals didn't make the Super Bowl (OK, they didn't even make the playoffs, but there's always next year, right?!) Cincinnati can still make the Super Bowl!

Well, kind of - but only if you make your vote count!

Some local filmmakers and comedians (shout out to Tyrone Hawkins and Dave Hyden!) have joined forces to create "Duct Tape," an awesome little commercial short that has made it to the Final 5 of Dorito's "Crash the Super Bowl" contest. If they get the most votes, they win (and as a proud member of the Greater Cincinnati public, you win, too!)

To vote, go to the site (click the headline above), watch the clip and vote!

***WARNING: SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION TIME***

If you happen to be in Dayton tomorrow night, come up to the Funny Bone at the Greene, say around 7 p.m. or so - it's gonna be a great time!

Reindeer Games

Joseph-Beth and St. Aloysius are making it easy to do something good this holiday season.

Even if you're not into books or reading, stop by Joseph-Beth Booksellers during the holidays and help put a smile on a kid's face. Together with St. Aloysius Orphanage, the Reading Reindeer Tree is an annual Joseph-Beth tradition when customers are invited to purchase a gift for a needy child.

The public can choose an ornament from the Reading Reindeer Tree and shop for a gift at a 20% discount for a specific child served by St. Aloysius. The gifts will then be delivered to the center.

Over 165 years ago, St. Aloysius Orphanage, located just off the Norwood Lateral, was established to aid children left homeless by a cholera epidemic. Today, St. Aloysius Orphanage is a Family Teaching Center for the tri-state region, providing the tools for children and their families to be safe and successful at home, in school, and in their community. It serves as a proactive resource for children and families and to treat children who have severe emotional and/or behavioral problems.

Joseph-Beth Booksellers is located in the Rookwood Pavilion at Madison and Edwards Roads. Call 513-396-8960 for information or visit online at Joseph-Beth Booksellers.

For all the 90210 "Geeks" Out there

Ah, fall 1990. I was a freshman in high school, and my new best friends were named Brandon, Dylan, Brenda, Kelly and Donna. Though I used to get my fix on fx, I've had trouble finding my friends for awhile now.

Now, they're back and the DVD will be released tomorrow!

The list price, according to the New on DVD column we run each week, is $61.99. However, Amazon lists it at $35.87. Quite the bargain.

I know I'm not the only one who's totally excited about this. I've already asked for it for my birthday. It's been 16 years since this season aired and 6 years since the show went off the air. But those were a fun 10 years of watching. In the beginning, I remember trying to finish my homework to watch the show on this "new" channel called FOX. In college, it was a dorm life staple. And the night the series finale aired, I paused in my packing for a trip to Europe to devour (and sob through) the last 2 hours. And I know I'm not the only one.

How much do you remember from the early years? Get ready because they're back!

Carnivale d'Expose

If you missed the Carnegie's swanky, provocative Carnivale d'Expose party on Saturday night, you definitely missed out.

I arrived on the early side, sampled some drinks and food (and the food was amazing – Pho Paris, Vinyl and more), and mingled of course. I liked that the crowd struck a balance between older, arts-supporting types, super-social young professionals and artists and performers themselves. It's not often that you get such a diverse crowd all in one room..

Things kicked up a notch when Barnyard Burlesque took the stage. People kinda packed the room to get a peek at the scantily clad (sometimes verrry scantily clad) performers (guys and girls), which was fun and all – and they were great performers. Fun songs, great choreography, etc. But I was most impressed by the performers' homemade costumes. So beautiful! Definitely a must-see show. (I know they're performing again this weekend at a Halloween show at Southgate House.)

By the time that ended, both the upstairs and downstairs galleries were packed and I wandered upstairs. I found more food, the oxygen bar (which was very funny to see in an art gallery) and got a quick peek into the VIP room. (The lucky VIP-ers got special performances by the Barnyard Burlesque troupe, access to a more decked-out bar and more.)

I had to jet to another party, so I couldn't stay for the rest of the party, but from what I heard, things got crazier (in a good way). There was a drag show, more bodypainted people, etc..

In summary: fun, fun, fun.

Check out our CiNscene gallery for all the fun photos!

Number of the day: 7 (OTR clubs closed)

From this morning's Enquirer: Red Cheetah latest OTR club to close
Red Cheetah has become the seventh nightclub in Over-the-Rhine to close this year.

Steve Ross of Indianapolis-based Sycamore Gardens Real Estate, who owns the Red Cheetah building at 1133 Sycamore St., said Tuesday that his tenants walked out on their lease last week (Oct. 10) with no notice. ...

Ross said Red Cheetah owes him about $14,000 in utility payments, plus 13 months of back rent. The club's phone number was still working Thursday evening.

Ross also owns the building at 221 E. 12th St., which was home to Purgatory until that club closed last month. A new club is scheduled to open in the space Oct. 31 and both properties remain for sale or lease, Ross said.

Um, the 13 months of rent might be considered notice.
