April showers....means no running!

Tuesday we went to Game Day cafe downtown to meet with the group to attempt to do either a 4, 6 or 8 mile run. Crystal and I were feeling pretty ambitious and thought we would attempt the 8 mile run. Running from downtown means only one thing: hills We were probably going to run to Eden Park or up Monastery, or over the bridges with our arms behind our back (they did that one time, I promise!) but the storm that blew in and brought the cold weather prevented us from running. We are not fair weather runners. We run when it is snowing, 10 degrees, and in the rain, but Joe, our trainer from The Spot, draws the line at lightening. He said he would not sponsor a group run when the conditions are dangerous like that. So no run Tuesday night!

Crystal and I were up before 5 AM Wednesday morning to do our 8 mile run. We both are people who like to stick with a plan. If it rained one run day, you do it the next. You don't skip! This morning we might have been slightly over dressed considering it was only 50 degrees and we had fleeces and ear warmers on. We passed several runners around the Hyde Park/Oakley area in shorts. I almost wanted to stop and explain we are from the south and if we are given the option, we prefer to be hot.

I am still nursing a left ankle injury. It hurts on the inside of my ankle. It is more of a nagging pain because I can still run, but it is on my mind. I have cut my running back from 4 times a week to just 2 times. I have been icing it almost every day, putting Vick's vapor run on it in the evenings under a sock, and applying a heating patch occasionally. It feels better between my runs, but is achy when I do run. Oh well, I will just keep toughing it out, until I have no other options. Again, it is not terrible pain, just a nagging one.

Ok, one more ailment I have to report: my pinkie toenail. I mentioned awhile back it was loose and I thought was going to fall off. Well, today the thing hurts like hell and is black. I think I need to clip the toenail and might get my hubby to do it later (hint hint).

Tonight we go see the play RENT! in Dayton. If you have read our past blogs, you know our obsession with the musical. Crystal and I bought these tickets last July and are on the 3rd row. We are going to have to practice some restraint as to not distract the singers with our own singing. We plan to get our sushi fix tonight at a restaurant called Thai 9. Do you know how many minutes are in a year? Download "Seasons of Love" from the RENT! Soundtrack and find out.

Saturday we do a relatively short "long run" of only 13 miles. That should be a piece of cake from last week. One quick comment about Crystal: Her running has drastically improved since training for the marathon. I have to be honest we run single file a lot when we are listening to our headphones and it is 5AM and neither one of us wants to talk, and I had to work to keep up with her this morning. Is this the same girl who last summer we went to Lunken Airport, and she could only run about 2.5 miles and had to walk the rest of the loop around? She has come so far, and is really enjoying the marathon training. Way to go sis!

Thanks for the encouragement, Amber. The only reason I am a better runner is because of YOU! No one else would push me as hard as you did, and though I might not have liked it at the time, I appreciate it now.
