Listen to Neil Young's new album

My all-time favorite, Neil Young, has rushed his new album, Living With War, onto the internet for a free listen. Not sure how long the record company will leave it up.

Click here to hear it. It's solid. He's at his best when he gets pissed off and takes it out in the studio.

For more, check out this blog.

(Special thanks to my friend Glenn for tipping me off.)

Breaking News!!!

CiN WEEKLY'S TABARI McCOY NAMED SEMI-FINALIST IN "FUNNIEST PERSON IN CINCINNATI" CONTEST

Sorry for the Ron Burgundy-style intro, but it's true - I have been added to the amateur semi-final bracket of Go Bananas' 2006 "Funniest Person in Cincinnati" contest along with Ken Ferguson, who will be competing in the semi-pro division in late May. (And no, I will kill all rumors now - I did not pay anyone to earn my spot! I'm too broke to do that!)

For those of you who have come to support me in the past, thank you. For those of you who have yet to see me live, get ready.

Stay tuned for more on this story - I'll report it as soon as I get more information myself!

The eternal question

WHICH IS LAMER?

A. Paris Hilton launches a line of cell-phone games.

B. MTV News suggests that by launching a line of cell-phone games, Paris Hilton is striking a blow for, like, women's lib. Or something.

CiN Stage stuff

It's that time of year, where bands are e-mailing and calling , wanting to get on our stage at Taste of Cincinnati. The schedule is almost complete ... I'm sure we'll unveil it soon. (Not that it's really a secret or anything.) We've got some great acts, from hip-hop to indie rock to folksy stuff.

There are certain acts we certainly go out of our way to woo back to our stage. Katie Reider is one of those acts. Katie and her band played our stage last year and drew a huge crowd, and she'll be on our stage again this year.

She just e-mailed me about a show she's playing on Saturday at the Aronoff Center with Jayne Sachs Band. Support Katie while she's in town and then come back to see her at Taste.

Details:
Aronoff Center For The Arts, 650 Walnut St., downtown. Doors at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m. with Jayne Sachs Band and then the Katie Reider Band will go on at 9 p.m.

Tickets are $15, and this is an all ages event! Available at (513) 621-2787 or at www.cincinnatiarts.org.

I feel GREAT!!!

This video is so ingrained in my subconscious, I can't see a group of babies together without thinking, "Yeah. Babies EVERYWHERE!"

So when we had a bunch of babies in the studio today for an upcoming story, I had no choice but to watch it again.

A song for the morning

This morning, I really think you should listen to the Black Angels. I'll even make it easy for you - just click here to listen to "Black Grease" from the band's self-titled EP. What better way to kick off a Tuesday than with garagey-psychadelic stuff from an up-and-coming Texas band? (Doesn't it seem like all up-and-coming bands are from Texas these days?)

I also featured the band in my first-ever "Music Minute" back in November. See the clip and video here. And I really think they were a hott band at some point, but I can't seem to find that link.

The mp3s are a good intro to the band (you can listen to more clips and video stuff at the band's site), but try to see them live sometime. The band last played Cincinnati in February - to a packed house at the Comet. The live experience is definitely what this band is about.

So, that's my Tuesday recommendation.

Reds by the numbers

After 213 minutes, the Reds and Cubs finally finished walking people (17 total). Good news for the Hometown Stockings: they threw a much high percentage of strikes than the Northsiders. That's right, the glimmer of hope comes from Reds hurlers throwing 122 of their 188 pitches for strikes (64.9%). The Cubbies had only 105 of 193. See, the pitchers will be fine.

Oh, and Scott Hatteberg's batting average (.333) is the same as the official time of the game (3:33). Freaky, eh?

If you want more numbers, comb through the box score.

If you want to hear more of what people had to say about the adventure that is Adam Dunn in left, check here, here and here.
