Good news for Ohio homeowners; bad news for Crate & Barrel
The Ohio Supreme Court just ruled that your friendly local government doesn't have the right to take away your house and put, say, a Target in its place.
I love Target, but I'm still going to mark this down as a "good thing."

I completely agree!! Hurray for the little guys.
Watch me whack off
Now if they could only keep Wal*Mart from opening yet another store in the area ...
Firebomb Wal-Mart...They suck
I wish the Wal Mart Corp would blow up the same way Enron did...Nice and Quick!!
No one "Takes Away" your house. They owners were offered 2-3 times the value of their property. I know the terms "stealing" and "take away" gets everyone fired up but please try to be accurate with your reporting. The people who were too stupid to know a good deal when they see it will hopefully have to live in those dumps for the rest of their dumb-ass lives.
Rodeo, I'm not reporting on this blog; I'm offering my opinion.
But if you want an accurate description of eminent domain, it refers to the government's power to purchase private property with or without the owner's consent. Sure, you're compensated for it, but your property is most definitely taken away from you, and you have no choice in the matter.
And if you want to parse words, then let's talk about the "dumps" these owners fought to protect. Even now, I don't think they're "dumps" - and they certainly weren't before all their neighbors' houses were demolished. They look just like any other house in Norwood or Oakley, or even the smaller houses in Mount Lookout and Hyde Park.
