That's what happens when you can't pass the Dept of Health's boards.

That's a baseless accusation. It had nothing to do with the Dept. of Health.

WRONG. It sure did. There might have been another reason in addition though.

Do you know another reason?

Recently, there have been a lot of freakin' restaurants that have closed their doors Downtown. Aioli on 7th and Elm-for starters recently bailed. I also heard that Redfish is going to go very soon.
Downtown sucks when you are hungry for food. For everyone who is stuck here to eat, there's like nowhere good to go.

The owner of Aioli is opening a place in Mt. Lookout. Can you blame her? It's nice to not worry about getting shot when you're going out to eat.

No, I don't blame the owner of Aioli for moving. Downtown is NOT the place to open a great restaurant...unfortunately.
It's a shame b/c really cool people want things to thrive here, but they just won't. Too much crime, too many panhandlers and not enough safe parking.

If that is the case, why are Jean Ro Bistro and Jeff Ruby busier than ever?

If you build it, they will come. Have faith in downtown.

Yeah, Barleycorn's, the Maisonette, and the Samurai are all doing great downtown.

Barleycorn's food was awful - that's why it failed on the river also. Maisonette was too expensive, snooty and old-school. Samuri food was ok if you didn't mind smelling like it for the rest of the day....
I agree that downtown has problems, but that is not the only reason restaurants close.

I am a single woman and live downtown on 7th Street. I know the local media has never been kind to downtown and that is probably where most of you are getting your information from but you are not in any danger of getting shot going out to eat down here. I walk all over downtown by myself at all hours of the day and do not feel like my life is in danger. Crime can happen anywhere, even in the suburbs. Of course in any city you watch your back a little more and are more aware of your surrounding. As far as the pandhandling goes. I've been panhandled in Hyde Park too. Ignore them and go on your way. Please don't let that keep you from coming downtown.
