Falcon Returns

Its always exciting (to me anyway) when the peregrine falcons pay a visit to the landing outside our office.
This one looks young.

Mike,
It appauls me that you like to see these falcons brought in. A little known secret is that the city brings these falcons in annually to reduce the dove population. They have been keeping on the down low so that the tree-huggers don't protest, but the word is starting to get out.
How would you feel if the city started bringing in an animal to reduce the human population. I bet you wouldn't be enjoying yourself so much if there were a human eating dragon perched on your window seal.

A window seal once ate my pet walrus.

from the Ohio DNR site:
"Peregrine falcon restoration projects have been implemented to help conserve an endangered species not control pigeon populations!

"While Peregrines do eat pigeons in urban areas, they also eat many other species of birds, including doves, blackbirds, ducks, starlings and jays."

Exactly my point. The government is trying to make it seem harmless so that there is not an uproar.
Lets see... of there prey (doves, blackbirds, ducks, starlings and jays) which one lives downtown? Yep, you guessed it... doves. What else is there to eat besides doves?

Plus the doves are very easy for these swift falcons to catch. Downtown doves are very slow and trusting, these falcons have a hayday with them.

There is a whole department in the government that works on controlling animal and insect populations. Doves, Deer, Mosquitos, and even humans. Yep, thats right humans. Ever wondered why there is a different strain of the flu every year?

Yeah, and what do you think is in a Dove bar? Ice cream and chocolate? Hell no. There's a whole baby dove in there, people!

Doves and pigeons are vermin of the sky. I hope this little Falcon grows up and gets fat of off those vile pigeons.

We interrupt this blog for a devoloping story with breaking news from Channel 12 where you heard it first...... Human eating dragons have been spotted in downtown Cincinnati! Please remain calm, they appear to only have interest in conspiracy theorists.
We now return you to your regular blogging.
