Around the news: Professional dress, wi-fi and tasers

Walking in to work this morning, the top of USA Today caught my eye with its story about how some old people don't like how some young people dress for work. And there are some horror stories about slinky black dresses and (shudder) exposed tatoos. I'm happy to report that, here at CiN Weekly, we have found a nice confluence of comfortable and professional. Of course, it helps that I typically don't see anyone from the outside world. That said, I'm trying to upgrade my wardrobe.

Also around the web of news today, and on the theory that "if we're talking about it here, they're probably talking about it somewhere else":

I think at CiN we pretty much dress the way we please. Someone (or nearly everyone sometimes) has done most of those things on the "not ok" list. What's wrong with not wearing socks in the summer? Plus, socks look funny with my rubber polka dot flip flops!! I see the point when you are interacting with customers etc. (and I do tend to dress up more when I know I will be meeting with higher ups or doing interviews out of the office) but if I have to sit at my desk for 12 hours, what's wrong with going sockless or wearing shorts?

I must say, Jon, your wardrobe upgrades have not gone unnoticed. Who in the office failed to notice the lovely green shirt you've been wearing, for example? Or, the nice leather jacket? I can say that our pod is getting cooler by the day. I can't wait to see what K-hud's hair looks like! God bless Aveda.

Also, every day when I wake up and decide what to wear, I think of the good fortune I have to work somewhere where no one cares that my idea of 'business casual' involves jeans and a slip/dress combo. Rock on!
