Food item: Thanksgiving wine selections

If you're looking for wine to go with next week's bird, aside from the local options, the San Francisco Chronicle has quite the good shopping list and a bit of advice:
"Stay away from oaky whites and tannic reds. Your best bet is to uncork wines with loads of fruity character."

I agree with most all that you suggest, but would add that Thanksgiving is a great time to try new, different wines. I agree about trying "pinks" (a dry rose) like the Muga and the Bonny Doon Vin Gris. Also, try the Toad Hollow Risque. See my notes at
